Earlier this year, Honeycombes’ own Karl Moschella was invited by John Deere to spend some time at the production factory in Thibodaux (Louisianna) where they produce the CH570 sugar cane harvester.
Karl, who is our Harvester Specialist, also manages our Pre-Season Preventative Maintenance program. The goal of his visit was to gain a sound understanding of the ongoing product development and improvement program as well as to share our ideas with the USA production team on how to set up each harvester at the pre-delivery stage, for optimum uptime performance in the field to enhance the delivery of a distinctive quality product into the Australian market.
During his time at the factory, Karl spent time working closely with the CH570 assembly line as well as Parts, Service, Whole Goods Shipping, Product Engineering and DTAC groups. He worked on the production line conducting pre-delivery inspections. These inspections led to a list of action items that the factory support team is reviewing. A cross-functional group also met with Karl to discuss warranty issues experienced during the past field season. This provided the opportunity to share the corrective actions put in place to resolve warranty issues, as well as determining further actions to put in place to better meet customers’ needs. Overall, as the week progressed, Karl was very impressed and optimistic with improvements being made throughout the product and factory assembly line. Two common themes were identified:
- Communicate change to the Australian dealers so they fully aware of these changes and how the machine is improving;
- Australian customers take extreme pride in owning a John Deere CH570 and always expect the best.
In conclusion, Karl made an impactful statement, saying “These machines represent a significant investment by our customers. Even if a small detail appears ‘not quite right’, then customers can be left feeling dissatisfied”. It was a call to action to all staff to take pride in everything they do as a combined John Deere team to ensure delivery of the best possible product to customers.
