Kindy Kids at the Ayr Branch!
This all started when one father, Mr Felesina, had given the children some sugar cane to submit an entry into the Burdekin Show. The sugar cane won awards in the show and the kids were over the moon with their winnings. They then went on to talk about sugar and what they would like to know; how it grows, how you need to water it, the cutting process, the delivery and the crushing process.
They had visits from Wilmar, who showed them “Sam the Loco” and they spoke about train safety.
An agronomist and farmer came in and showed kids how it was cut in olden days and they tasted it and felt it.
Then to cap off the learning segment, they visited Honeycombes and looked at a sugar cane harvester and tractor. They also climbed all over the mowers and Gators. They even got a ‘Golden Key’ tour of the spare parts department, and each of them was presented with a lovely certificate.
We think that you can see from the photos that they all had a great time!
