Townsville local Keely Nielsen, who attended our Ingham John Deere Demo Day on August 31st, 2024, was the lucky winner of John Deere’s grand prize. In a heartwarming gesture, Keely gifted the $8,500 prize to her husband’s grandparents, Lyel and Margaret Nielsen. After much anticipation, the Nielsen family received their winnings on Wednesday, 6 November 2024 and were overjoyed to add a John Deere to their collection of mowing equipment.

The 82-year-old couple retired to a beautiful acreage 30 minutes outside of Townsville just three years ago. Lyel, a third-generation cane farmer from Home Hill, had never owned a John Deere until Keely won them the prize. Keely shared that she only ever “entered for the chance of winning it for them.” While the prize belongs to Lyel and Margaret, their grandson, Keely’s husband, was eager to take the John Deere mower for a spin. “He’ll be here straight after work,” Margaret said with a smile.

The family were pleasantly surprised when they learned how monumental their win was. They thought the prize only came from our Ingham event, but we explained that they won over all other attendees across every John Deere Demo Day held in Australia and New Zealand hosted on that day. Their reactions were priceless when they realised the scale of their win.

Dealerships all over Australia and New Zealand hosted a John Deere Demo Day on August 31^st 2024, as part of John Deere ‘Dream It, Deere It’ campaign. Our dealerships in Cairns and Ingham took part in this nationwide event. All attendees had the opportunity to win John Deere’s grand prize being a John Deere Z315E Residential ZTrak™ Zero-Turn Mower, 10P Polycart, and Home Maintenance Service Kit, with a total value exceeding $8,500 AUD.

Everyone at Honeycombes, especially our Ingham team, were thrilled to learn that one of our event attendees won John Deere’s grand prize. Knowing that this was the Nielsen family’s first John Deere made the moment even sweeter, and we have no doubt they’ll be John Deere fans for life.
